OK so everyone - how about what is favourite movies and why? What they mean to you and please not just because you like to see Paris Hilton get stake bashed into her head. (ok I like that bit too).

My favourite: In the Mood for Love, gorgeous romantic movie full of lost longing, (no sex sorry, is Chinese film after all). Girls like because because Maggie Cheung ManYu wear 47 gorgeous Chongsam, (wear she keep them)? Lovely soundtrack.

Also The Red Violin, good film, guess why I like?

Also: 2046, Hero, The Road Home. Smila's Feeling for Snow, Friendship's Death, Orlando, French Lieutenant's Woman.

Sounds like you have...... I would like to see 'Come and See', I hear it's very good.

Pour moi:- 2001,La Dolce Vita,Bright Young Things,
Harold and Maude, Brewster McCloud,Medium Cool,Star Trek 2 and 6,The life of Brian,Little Dorrit,This Happy Breed,400 blows, Day for Night,
Monsieur Hulot's Holiday,Traffic,Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's version of the Hound of the Baskervilles, Bedazzled (the original).
I could go on and probably will once I've pulled myself together and had a piece of special chocolate.

Man Bites Dog - blackas hell humour
Meet Joe Black- dead romantic with star performances from Brad and Anthony
Charlie and the Choc Factory- for Johnny in all his splendour and those Glasses... and his 'love'of little children.

Just a few and basically anything on Mikey1's list. Jaws is such a good movie. Who cares about the rubber shark as it was not the star of the movie and only had a few scenes totalling a few minutes.

Qin ai Chou,

Xie~xie for your thoughtful responses. I think movies is always good sign of compatibility and of persons makeup.

Humm I enjoy Nikita too. I also like Smilla's feeling for Snow. I saw these "feminista" films shortly after my divorce and I think they capture my feelings of pent up agression and isolation in an alien land. Great films. 2001 I think is great movie and is difficult to imagine was release before I was born yet still does not date.

My tastes now are more "girlie" I suppose and I like movies that work at several levels. Has anyone seen Memoirs of a Geisha? This is good movie to my taste as work at several levels. Are Mameha and Hatsumomo just people? They can also represent both sides of Sayuri's soul as she fights for her future. Mameha as the perfect Geisha she aspire to be and Hatsumomo as the willful dark side that will sacrifice anythign for love.

Strange for me as I dont like Quentin Tarantino I actually see Kill Bill a few months back and although I not like much I found myself sympathise with O'Ren Ishii rather than The Bride and not just because she Chinese/American but because I think she suffer much in her life and becomes "Mistress" in male dominate alien society. I think she deserve to win.

Anyone else got special films they like? David like scene in Incredibles when Mr Incredible punch his boss through wall. He say he feel like that every day. I say "You want to see Raw Deal." but he not seen that one.

I am generally not very good at watching films, I fall asleep or generally get distracted and don't understand what is going on, then start chatting/asking questions which is always very annoying to whoever is trying to watch the film with me.

That aside, two films I really like and could watch over and over are 'Napoleon Dynamite' and 'Best in Show'. I also like singing along to 'Priscilla Queen of the Desert' (my fav karaoke song is from there...).

I prefer light, easy, funny films that do not take much brain power or concentration.

Is this the "Come and See" from 1985 which is Russian War film about partisans?

If so it is certainly available as DvD on Amazon. You can also buy as the Russian original "Idi i smotri".

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005Q4DF/104-7275275-5831960?v=glance&n=130

I not seen but I read it is one of the best war films ever made and is like Russian equivalent of Appocalypse Now.

Thank goodness you mentioned some vintage Disney Vee, this was all getting a bit too high-brow for me then!
