My brother met a 33 year olf lady named Jan Cliffe that turned out to be a complete nutter. When he stopped seeing her after three dates, she began texting and calling his friends, family and other girlfriends. She was calling in to check his voice mail. She would steal his trash. We think she even broke into his car. She managed to gain access to his email. It was a complete NIGHTMARE! As a woman, that really scares me. How do you protect yourself?

This good idea for a thread....

I told tale once before of a friend of mine who encountered a man who make model of Auschwitz railway station in his living room from matchsticks. I suppose everyone here have problems. I think problem is making yourself too accessible to the other person.

I keep one email for business, one for private life, one for dear friends and one for poeple I not know so good or dont really like. So people work their way up into my life. Everyso often I close the "not-know-so-good" account and start a new one. I rarely give out my landline telephone number and I threw my mobile into the Thames six years ago and never looked back. Dont keep an organiser, never let anyone, even (especially) a husband know your bank account number. (I speak from experience here).

All problems I hear about are because people start behave like married couples from first time they meet so if they fall out the disappointed partner can take over their lives.

My receipe is make people work for your trust. Once you give something, you cannot take back.

Moi tends to get paranoid. Never answer my mobile unless i recognise the number. Never answer the front door unless i've invited someone over. Never fill in those questionaires that people get you to fill in on the street who knows where the info is going, probaly sell to a government agency. There out there watching and listening. The new id card ? protect whose identity is that mean't to protect us against terrorists? it's just another way for the government to snoop on people, just like in George Orwells 1984 your body belongs to the state.

Mickey, I've worked for one of those companies and I can tell you where the information from the questionnaires goes.

The answers you gave go straight in the bin.

When you were confused and in the mode to answer questions though, you gave them your name and address. That goes on a list so that lots and lots of companies can send you lots and lots of junk mail.

Also:

Only use credit card for big purchase;
Use debit card to get cash then spend cash only;
never get storecards;
never get supermarket "Loyalty Cards";
Don't use eBay;
On public computer always wipe your history;
de-register on 192.com;
pretend you not english and only answer questions in chinese(Maybe this only work for me);
Lie.

There's government agents everywhere, snooping and driving around in silver transit vans full of listening devices. Tony blair has his own band of New labour thugs waiting to pounce on anyone that dosn't tow the party like, just like that poor old guy at labour conference the goons that ejected him.
