Ex partners are part of everyone`s life. Same with the other issues, sometimes I like to learn something new in a technical way and sometimes I could not care less, depends on the subject. When you go in with a winning formula, that is where you screw up the most. Just be yourself. But yeah a conversation with that or 'do you have any puff?' become very predicatble and never draw your in to get you wondering if that they think about anything else...
